Joe Schmit Set to Keynote Fall Workshop At Bielenberg
Sports Center in Woodbury on November 16, 2016

The MPSTMA Fall Workshop is set for Nov. 16 at Bielenberg Sports Center in Woodbury. Joe Schmit is pleased to be invited to speak because "I appreciate the hard work the people in your association do." His topic for the workshop will be: Silent Impact: Influence Through Purpose, Persistence and Passion. Joe will be offering a high energy, high impact presentation loaded with humor. Schmit will inspire and teach how to ramp up the profound power of influence. Through research, Joe has discovered that we make our biggest impressions when we are not trying to be impressive. You can become an "Impact Player" who makes everyone around you better just by being there. If there were a going away party at your work place today, who would the most people show up for? That person is having a "Silent Impact" on everyone around them, but what is their secret? You can become that person of great influence. Joe's authentic style will rally the audience to embrace their own power of influence. Earlybird online registration at www.mpstma.org/fall_workshop.htm - More information about the workshop will be forwarded soon.

Dan Heitke Retires
From City of Plymouth

The City of Plymouth honored 36-year employee Dan Heitke with a retirement party on August 1 at the Parkers Lake Playfield then later gathered at Lucky 13's. "I'm humbled by so many people saying so many kind words at the ceremony," said Heitke, and added "I plan to keep busy farming our 200 acres in Corcoran." He also has looked at his land and can visualize a nice spot for a golf course!

Almquist & Weinbrenner Win 1st
MPSTMA Golf Tourney at UMLBGC
.
Ian Almquist, Minnesota Twins Grounds Staff, (pictured on left) and Roger Weinbrenner CSFM, University of St. Thomas, partnered to shoot par 71 at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights to capture the 1st Annual MPSTMA Golf Tournament. A post-tournament gathering took place at nearby Station 280. The MPSTMA Golf Tournament came about when this year's
Chapter Clash was postponed. Iowa could not get enough players to field a team and travel to Minnesota due to many mid-summer tournaments and other conflicts.

188 Participate in MTGF / UM Field Day at St. Paul Campus

The Turf & Grounds Field Day was back on the St. Paul campus this
year as the University of Minnesota once again partnered with the Minnesota Turf and Grounds Foundation to produce the 2016 event at TROE Center, the UM Trial Gardens and UFore Nursery. Including speakers and presentors, 188 people were registered for Field Day. The weather was looking like it would be an issue less than a few hours before Field Day was set to begin but a major storm blew through just in time for the rain to stop and have the UM show begin! The Field Day was presented by University of Minnesota faculty and staff working in turfgrass science and horticulture and ran from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. with presentation topics ranging from turfgrass species for natural areas to disease management in turf and trees to state-of-the-art drones (pictured above). Thirteen vendors participated with outdoor tabletop displays and equipment demonstrations.
