MPSTMA FALL WORKSHOP WILL FOCUS ON FIELD & PLAYGROUND SAFETY and SUSTAINABLE ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE - REGISTER TODAY!
Joe Schmit will Keynote the MPSTMA workshop at Bielenberg Sports Center in Woodbury on November 16

The MPSTMA Fall Workshop is set for Nov. 16 at Bielenberg Sports Center in Woodbury. The focus of the workshop will be Field and Playground Safety along with ways to deal with climate change.

One of our featured speakers is
Fred Rozumalski, is an ecologist and landscape architect that leads the Green Infrastructure practice group at Barr Engineering Co. in Minneapolis.  He holds degrees in horticulture, ecology and landscape architecture and has been adjunct faculty in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota. His work currently focuses on sustainable design that addresses adaptation to climate change.

Rozumalski's topic is:
Landscape and Planting Design for our Changing Climate

Data is showing that our climate is changing. Winters are shorter, storms are more intense and winds are increasing. This is challenging for the plants in our landscapes. Learn in this session how our design decisions, plant choices and soil management techniques must evolve as our climate shifts.

KSTP sportscaster Joe Schmit (pictured) will keynote  and talk about "
Silent Impact: Influence Through Purpose, Persistence and Passion." Joe will be offering a high energy, high impact presentation loaded with humor.

Through research, Joe has discovered that we make our biggest impressions when we are not trying to be impressive. You can become an "Impact Player" who makes everyone around you better just by being there. If there were a going away party at your work place today, who would the most people show up for? That person is having a "Silent Impact" on everyone around them, but what is their secret? You can become that person of great influence. Joe's authentic style will rally the audience to embrace their own power of influence.

Also, don't forget about our "
Roundtable" discussion on mowing and mowing equipment. A link below can be used as a guideline. We would like to get the presentations, either powerpoint or pdf, to the MPSTMA office before the event.

188 Participated in the 2016 MTGF / UM Field Day
at TROE Center, UM Trial Gardens and UFORE Nursery

The Turf & Grounds Field Day was back on the St. Paul campus this
year as the University of Minnesota once again partnered with the Minnesota Turf and Grounds Foundation to produce the 2016 event at TROE Center, the UM Trial Gardens and UFore Nursery. Including speakers and presentors, 188 people were registered for Field Day. The weather was looking like it would be an issue less than a few hours before Field Day was set to begin but a major storm blew through just in time for the rain to stop and have the UM show begin! The Field Day was presented by University of Minnesota faculty and staff working in turfgrass science and horticulture and ran from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. with presentation topics ranging from turfgrass species for natural areas to disease management in turf and trees to state-of-the-art drones (pictured above). Thirteen vendors participated with outdoor tabletop displays and equipment demonstrations.
